Ben Martin

Ben MartinBen loves teaching people who think they have no musical talent. He graduated with a degree in music from Sierra Nevada College. Ben has performed with legends Kenny Loggins and Mike Love of the Beach Boys. He currently plays in a number of music projects including the After Eights (acoustic guitar), Emily Tessmer Band (bass guitar) Kimba Madsen(bass, guitar, mandolin, ukulele) and Angele (acoustic guitar).   Ben Martin is the founder of Tahoe School of Music in Truckee and runs the music program at the Tahoe Expeditionary Academy in Kings Beach.

Nick Blechman

Nick BlechmanNick Blechman grew up immersed in music from a young age.  Nick began playing Bluegrass and acoustic music in High School.  He was compelled to play the mandolin and guitar, and later the banjo.  He enjoys playing various styles of acoustic and electrified music from Bluegrass to Blues, from Latin American folk music to classic County and Rock and Roll. Nick earned an Associates of Arts degree in music and a Bachelor of Arts in Community Arts Education from UC Santa Cruz.  Nick has played with many different bands in California and the great Northwest, including Tahoe's own, The Rusty Strings. He believes that every human has an innate ability to be creative.

Crystal Boutelle

CrystalCrystal has been singing since she was nine years old. She has sung in many different musical groups, from Church Choirs and musicals to the UC Davis Acapella Latin Baroque Choir, and even sung the National Anthem at her College Graduation.  She currently sings in an accoustic duo called the After Eights with Ben Martin on the acoustic guitar. She began her musical hobbies playing the flute at the age of eight which she continued through college playing and performing in flute quartets. But her passion has always been singing and harmonizing with others. She hopes to share her love of singing with others who are excited about learning and exploring their own unique voice.

Tim Callicrate

Tim CallicrateA native of Portland, Oregon, Tim has enjoyed living in Incline Village for the past 25 years. Tim has been active in the Lake Tahoe Basin performing at many of the region’s top venues such as the Hyatt Regency Resort, Spa and Casino, Harrah’s, Harvey’s, Caesar’s and the Resort at Squaw Creek. His Serenade From Tahoe compact discs have given Tim a great creative outlet and have garnered an International following with performances in Nepal, Sweden and New Zealand, to name a few.  Tim is the Associate Director of Music at St. Francis Of Assisi Church in Incline Village where he has been a member since 1985. Tim also graduated in 2006 from Sierra Nevada College, where he earned a Master of Arts in Teaching along with and additional undergraduate degree in Entrepreneurship. As a 19 year survivor of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Tim has committed himself to volunteering his musical talents to the Cancer Society’s Relay For Life as well as numerous local civic organizations along with the North Shore area’s schools.

Mark Henasey

Mark HenaseyFrom the east to the west coast Mark has enjoyed performing music and teaching students of all ages for twenty years.  Mark’s musical roots began in Philadelphia where he was fortunate to study and play with some of the industry’s top musicians from New York and Philly.  His teaching methods are diverse and oriented towards each student’s specific musical personality.  Mark is currently the high school music teacher at Squaw Valley Academy.  Previous teaching venues have included the Summer Institute for the Gifted music courses at Princeton University, UCLA and Bryn Mawr College.  He performs and specifies in teaching trumpet, saxophone, guitar and bass.  His original compositions have been featured on University of Princeton radio (WPRB 103.3) and his projects have opened for many international touring acts including Ween, The Wailers, Bernie Worrell (P-Funk and Talking Heads) and Vernon Reed (Living Color). 

Giovanna Mandy (picture coming)

Gia White Mandy began playing violin at age three. She grew up in a family of musicians where all of her siblings studied a stringed instrument and the piano through high school.  Gia began her study of violin in the Suzuki Method until she was seven and then studied privately.  Gia began playing viola in 1988 as a compliment to her violin study and was granted a scholarship to study the viola at the University of Colorado in Boulder.  She has studied under many of America's most premiere string instructors including John Sant'Ambrogio, Erika Eckert, Judith Glide, Theodore Kuchare and Nina Bodnar. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Viola.  Gia has two little children (ages 2 and 5).  She believes that the best time to capture a child in their learning process is at birth and that they are ready to play the violin around age three.

 

Don Glattly

Emily TessmerDon Glattly is a Truckee resident. He teaches trombone, tuba, trumpet, French horn and guitar. He was a bass trombonist of the Sacramento Symphony, Opera and Ballet Orchestras from 1979-1996. He has also performed with the San Diego Symphony Ballet and Opera Orchestras, San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, Reno Philharmonic, Bad Wiesse Orchestra in Germany and the Munich Philharmonic. He is currently the bass trombonist with the Reno Big Band, Reno Big Swing and the Reno Jazz Orchestra. Don was a music education major at San Diego State University and has studied trombone privately with Phil Teele, Jeff Reynolds, Charles Vernon, John Engelkes and others. Don was on faculty at the University of Pacific in Stockton where he taught bass trombone and tuba. Two of Don's trombone students who recently graduated from Truckee high school earned trombone scholarships at Chico State University. Don has played the guitar for over 40 years and he has played professionally since 1981. He is the guitarist of Avalanche Violin and Guitar which performs from Tahoe to the San Francisco Bay area. He has played guitar in ensembles in Munich, Sacramento and in San Diego. He studied guitar with jazz great Clint Strong.

Emily Tessmer

Emily TessmerEmily Tessmer just released “The Seven Sisters” which promises to be lush and lyrical. Emily has worked with the best in the music business on her previous solo releases, “Reach Toward The Sky” 2002, and “Luminarium” 2008. Emily has enjoyed working with many world-class musicians and magicians. Prior to her solo accomplishments Emily and her former band worked in studio on a production deal funded by MCA, headlined at the Veenhoop Festival (Holland), played Los Angeles’s Troubadour, and opened for diverse artists including Gilby Clarke (Supernova), and Blue Oyster Cult. Emily has been invited to sing the National Anthem for the San Diego Padres twice at PETCO Park. Additionally Emily was commissioned by Kristen and Mike Klink (Guns N’ Roses) to write an original song for their foundation, A Song of My Own, a charity enabling singer songwriters to connect with terminally ill children. Emily wrote Annie’s song and Annie went into remission from Leukemia shortly thereafter. “I consider that song and my experience with Annie as being the true healing power of music and that is why I am here.”
